Unit 1: Becoming a Scientist

Unit 3: Journey to the Center of Earth

Unit 4: Circle of Life

Unit 5: ENERGYzer: It keeps going and going

Greetings Teachers

This is a collection of my weekly lesson plans.  I definitely believe in SHARING activities and labs and  working SMARTER not HARDER.   The activities/labs are some of my own creation and of those awesome science websites that I use (in no particular order):

Steps to Upload a file

We spend countless hours trying to create the best lessons to engage our students. Imagine if we could harness all that energy and provide a place where science teachers could share their engaging science lessons, lab, animations, worksheets, so that we are not RECREATING the WHEEL.  LET THE SHARING BEGIN!

  1. Click on the email icon :
  2. Upload your file to the email message
  3. THE FINAL STEP IS TO include the following in your message (bottom of page)..
    • Your name, school, city & state
    • Type of Activity: Lesson plan, lab, graphic organizer, etc
    • Specify a Unit:
      • Unit 1: Becoming a Scientist
      • Unit 2:  Journey to the Center of the Earth
      • Unit 3: Blast Off to Outer Space
      • Unit 4: Circle of Life
      • Unit 5: ENERGYzer: It keeps going and going
  4. HIT SEND. Thanks for sending in your wonderful resource.  This will help other wonderful teachers around the world

One of the best ways to improve learning is actually DISCUSSION.  Therefore I have created a discussion board for each unit. If you would like to start a discussion question on any of the units please see below. To go to the discussion board please click here, Teacher Corner: Science Unit Discussion Board. This is the place to discuss lesson plans, ask questions, and that all important colleauge advice so that we can become better teachers.

Unit One: Become a Scientist

This unit involves students conducting field and laboratory investigations using scientific methods, analyzing data, making informed decisions, and using tools such as beakers, test tubes, and spring scales to collect, analyze, and record information. Students also use computers and information technology tools to support scientific investigations. Just as Nancy Drew or Sherlock Holmes solve a mystery, this unit allows students to be problem solving inorder to understand how the world works around us.

Unit 2: Blast Off Into Outer Space

In our 2nd unit, we will “Blast Off Into Outer Space” and explore our amazing solar system. In this unit students will identify components of the solar system including the Sun, planets, moon, and asteroids and learn how seasons and the length of the day are caused by the tilt and rotation of the Earth as it orbits the Sun .

Unit 3: Journey to the Center of the Earth

We will then zoom back to Earth as we get ready for our 3rd Unit which takes us on a “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. Here students will learn about Earth’s precious minerals and spectacular rocks.  Lastly, we will learn how the rock is like an apple, why we have earthquakes and volcanoes, and figure out where does soil come from

Unit 4: Circle of Life
Our 4th unit will illustrate how all life is connected through the “Circle of Life”. Students will realize how we (humans, plants, animals, etc) are all connected through the awesome power of the SUN- fore it provides plants with energy to make their own food (photosynthesis) which then allow all other life to be sustained .

Unit 5: ENERGYzer: It keeps going and going

We will finally wrap up the year with amazing demonstrations and experiments dealing with energy, states of matter, light, and sound with our final unit of the year-“ENERGYzer: It Keeps Going and Going”. In this unit we will learn the parts of a lightbulb, figure out a circuit, and build a roller coaster using energy concepts we learned in class.
