Neither Mrs. DuBose or Edublogs is responsible for what a child does on the internet. It is extremely important that while a child is “surfing the net”, a parent is supervising and/or aware of what the child is doing on-line. There are many great pages, resources, etc. on the web for everyone, including children, but as with anything, there are also dangers. It is important to understand not only how to use the internet, but to know how a child will use it so that any dangerous situations can be prevented.
While the guestbook to this page is filtered and monitored, it is impossible for Mrs. DuBose to know where a visitor to her webpage has been before visiting, much less where they will go afterwards. While students have access to computers at school and will use them to do on-line activities, these activity are on a monitored and protected school computer, not a home computer. Mrs. DuBose cannot be responsible for what any of her students do at home, much less on a home computer.
Please be responsible and safe while surfing the web. Never give out personal information such as your full name, social security number, home or cell phone number, address, etc. This includes posting this information in your “buddy profile” for instant messaging programs such as AIM or Yahoo. When signing guestbooks such as the one of this page, don’t give out your full name or other important information. First names are great. Again, be safe. And parents, please watch your children on the net. Just because they are indoors doesn’t make them safe.
